Philadelphia indie rock band 2nd Grade have announced a new album, Girls and Boys, due out October 30 via Lame-O Records, previewed by the new single "Anywhere Girls."
The 20-track record splits evenly down the middle: ten songs about "girls," ten about "boys," with guitarist Catherine Dwyer singing lead on one half and singer Peter Gill leading the other, dividing the album by subject and by voice at the same time.
Dwyer said she was drawn to "Anywhere Girls" once she and Gill started sorting through his demos and deciding who would sing what. "A catchy upbeat standout in a tracklist packed with catchy upbeat standouts," she called it, adding that its wide, unfamiliar melodic intervals and Gill's fast phrasing made it a genuinely difficult song to sing.
The album also folds in the previously released "Cellophane Girls," and runs from opener "Guess and Check Girls" through the closing "Crash Test Boys." Girls and Boys is the band's first album since 2024's Scheduled Explosions.
The release adds 2nd Grade to a run of new indie and rock albums arriving this fall, tracked alongside other upcoming records on the release calendar.
