A new intimate club, XTC Bushwick, opens its doors in New York

A new small-scale nightclub called XTC Bushwick has opened in Bushwick, Brooklyn, on what local outlet Grime Square describes as a "concrete island" between Flushing, Johnson and Scott Avenues. The space previously housed an auto repair shop and, later, a jazz bar called the Bushwick Triangle, which closed before XTC Bushwick moved in.

The club comes from Brooklyn DJ Sheezy Kebab, who told Grime Square he was inspired to open a New York venue after performing at Es Paradis in Ibiza. "My bigger ambitions are something like what Brooklyn Mirage used to be," he said, adding that EDM is "the ideal" for the space, "but it's not the only thing we care about."

Sheezy had originally planned to hold an event at the Bushwick Triangle space before it shut down, and after learning the venue had been double-booked, he improvised instead, throwing a party in the back of a semi-truck parked nearby. The impromptu event, complete with a refrigerator setup and a generator powering the sound system, drew more than 40 people.

XTC Bushwick now spans three floors, with indoor spaces and an outdoor rooftop holding up to 74 people, according to Resident Advisor. The rooftop has already hosted an open deck night in July, giving emerging DJs 15-minute slots throughout the evening, followed a few days later by Alchemy Collective's first Brooklyn pop-up featuring local techno DJs.

No further events have been confirmed yet for XTC Bushwick beyond its opening run, though Sheezy Kebab has signaled ambitions to grow the space into a larger fixture of the city's club scene.
