The accuser in a kidnapping case against the rapper Cartel Bo has withdrawn her claims of being held captive and sexually assaulted, according to a KPRC 2 report cited by XXL on August 5. At a Houston court hearing, prosecutors showed photos of cuts and bruises on the woman's legs, which they said came from repeated beatings; Cartel Bo's attorney, Samuel Milledge II, said the injuries came from rough sex and her work as a dancer.
"The allegations are very salacious, but allegations are just that," Milledge told reporters outside the courtroom.
Milledge presented a video statement in which the woman said she had been pressured by law enforcement to make her original statement, along with a signed and notarized affidavit of non-prosecution. Prosecutors, however, said Cartel Bo had used a fellow inmate's jail credentials to contact the woman and pressure her into signing the affidavit and recording the video withdrawing her account.
Cartel Bo, whose real name is Warren Brown, is a hip-hop artist who was arrested on July 25, accused of kidnapping the mother of his three children and holding her in a home for several days while sexually assaulting her before she escaped. Court documents allege he kidnapped her on July 21 and that she escaped a secured closet while shackled, before a neighbor found her, gave her food and water, and alerted police.
Officers later found the woman at a nearby Waffle House still wearing handcuffs and took her to the hospital for treatment. Police say they recovered zip ties, fast-food wrappers and a deadbolt installed on the closet door from the home.
Judge Kelli Johnson denied Cartel Bo bond on August 4, a day before the accuser's recantation was reported. He was first charged with felony kidnapping in late July.
