Acid Bath bring sludge metal to a New York concert with Obituary

Louisiana sludge metal band Acid Bath brought their reunion tour to New York City last week, playing an outdoor show at Manhattan's Pier 17 with support from veteran death metal band Obituary.

Metal fans filled the waterfront venue for what marked Acid Bath's third New York appearance since the band returned to the stage in 2025, ending a nearly three-decade absence following their original breakup in 1997. The show landed during an unusually wet stretch of outdoor concerts in New York, with the night providing one of the few recent evenings where the weather cooperated.

Acid Bath delivered a 10-song set opening with "Tranquilized" and closing with "The Blue," pulling every song from the band's only two studio albums, 1994's When the Kite String Pops and 1996's Paegan Terrorism Tactics. Obituary opened the night with a 12-song set spanning their more than four-decade career, including a cover of Celtic Frost's "Circle of the Tyrants."

The New York date is one stop on a run that continues through the fall, with Acid Bath booked for select US shows from September through December alongside bands including Ministry and Neurosis. It lands amid a busy summer of metal package tours that has also included Megadeth extending their farewell run into Europe and Deftones reviving deep cuts on their own European dates, giving the band's cult catalog, built almost entirely on two albums released nearly 30 years ago, a fresh audience of festival and club crowds who never saw the original lineup play live.
