AKRIILA has released "partedemipartedeti," the third and final preview single from her upcoming second album, Rolling Stone en Espanol reported on August 7. Her camp has kept most details about the record under wraps, but the album already has a title: Lucy miro al mundo y noto que esta girando, which translates to "Lucy looked at the world and noticed it was spinning."
AKRIILA told the outlet the album keeps hallmarks of her earlier sound while pushing into new territory built around more organic, analog instrumentation. That shift has played out gradually across her run of preview singles. "suave" kept the hyperpop foundation that has defined much of her career, boosted by a feature from Jane Remover, while "roger" marked her first real attempt at guitar-driven arrangements and heavier percussion without dropping the electronic pulse underneath.
"partedemipartedeti," produced by her regular collaborators Vinco and Heartgaze, pushes that shift further. Synths remain, but guitar carries the song from start to finish, joined partway through by delicate piano and flute that build a calmer, almost melancholic mood, a contrast to the intensity of the two singles that came before it.
All three songs circle the same subject: a relationship ending, with one partner pulling away while the other holds on. On the new single, AKRIILA confronts that distant figure over her confusion about their real intentions, whether to stay or leave for good, and sings that part of her already lives inside the other person. The verse turns sharper, with AKRIILA saying she is tired of overthinking the situation and that if she no longer means anything to her partner, ending things is the only option left, reworking Emiliano Zapata's "better to die on your feet than live on your knees" into a line about how dying on your feet is dying too.
The single arrived with a music video directed by Itsuki Yoshizawa that stages a literal take on its title. AKRIILA and another patient are wheeled into an operating room, where surgeons remove a heart from her chest holding a small puppet made in her image. The puppet slips out of the hospital and wanders Tokyo before returning to be placed inside the other patient's chest, who appears to come back to life once it settles there.
AKRIILA has since confirmed the record will follow soon: Lucy miro al mundo y noto que esta girando is due out September 3, roughly a month after this single closed out its run of previews. It's the latest addition to the release calendar and our Latin coverage.
