Amon Amarth share the single Eight Legs Of Thunder from The Allfather Awakens

The video takes Odin's eight legged horse and stages it as a western, and the album lands October 2 on Metal Blade.

Amon Amarth have released Eight Legs Of Thunder, the latest single from their forthcoming album The Allfather Awakens, with a video alongside it. The Swedish melodic death metal band built the song around Odin and his eight legged steed, which is roughly where the title comes from.

Director Dariuz Szermanowicz said he and the band set out to break the usual mould for a metal video, fusing the dusty look of a modern western with the darker end of Norse mythology. He described the result as a high octane ride with cowboy tension, raw action and a touch of dark humour.

The album arrives on October 2 through Metal Blade Records. Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen described a slow method when the record was announced, saying the band worked on one song at a time and finished each track completely, drums, guitars and vocals, before starting the next.

That is a deliberate reversal of how most modern studio records are tracked, where instruments are usually recorded in passes across a whole album. Doing it song by song is slower and closes off the option of fixing an arrangement later by borrowing from another take.

The Allfather Awakens is the band's 13th release across three decades, produced by Jacob Hansen with a lineup of Mikkonen, guitarist Johan Soderberg, vocalist Johan Hegg, bassist Ted Lundstrom and drummer Jocke Wallgren. The sessions took them further into acoustic territory than they have gone before.

The autumn metal calendar is dense around them, with Immolation releasing the album Descent and Louder Than Life setting out its daily running order for September. The October release date sits on the release calendar.
