Bass Canyon festival death leads to an arrest at the Gorge Amphitheatre

Bass Canyon, the bass music festival held at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington, ran from August 14 to 16, and a man who attended it died of a suspected drug poisoning. The Grant County Sheriff's Office said on Monday that it had arrested the man it alleges supplied the drugs.

The man who died was Zion Randall, 26, from Olympia, Washington. Police said he fell ill after taking controlled substances obtained from another attendee, and that he died at the venue's medical area.

Kyle Foreman of the Grant County Sheriff's Office said the death is being labelled a drug poisoning rather than an overdose.

After investigating, the county's Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team narrowed the suspect down to 28-year-old Quincy R. Travers. Officers then ran an undercover operation and bought suspected illegal substances from him.

This was the eighth annual edition of the festival, which EDM.com describes as one of the largest bass music events on the West Coast. It is filed on the festival tracker with the year's other electronic events, among them Electric Picnic, whose organisers answered for crowd handling after a collapse.

Travers was arrested on suspicion of one count of delivery of a controlled substance and three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, one count each for cocaine, ketamine and MDMA that police say were in his possession.
