Singer-songwriter Andy Shauf is marking ten years since his breakthrough album, The Party, with a deluxe reissue due out this fall, about two months after the announcement. The Party (10th Anniversary Edition) adds a slew of demos plus three finished tracks that never made the original release.
The Party was the record that turned Shauf, a Saskatchewan native who signed to the label ANTI-, into one of Canada's most closely watched indie songwriters. It is a concept album, with each song written from the perspective of a different person at the same gathering, a structure that set Shauf apart from more straightforward singer-songwriter records at the time.
The bonus material on the anniversary edition will also be sold separately as its own EP, titled the afterparty, giving listeners a way to pick up the newly surfaced songs without buying the full reissue. Stereogum, which broke the news, did not specify a full tracklist for either release.
The reissue joins a run of anniversary editions from the 2010s indie scene now old enough for the treatment, and lands on the release calendar alongside other fall reissues. Andy Shauf has not announced tour dates tied to the release.
