Anna St. Louis and Jarvis Taveniere have formed a new project together called Panamint. St. Louis, an LA-based singer-songwriter, has long been part of the wider Woodsist circle of rootsy, artsy underground acts built around the upstate New York psych-folk band Woods, and Taveniere is a core member of that same band who has worked with a long list of other artists over the years.
The pairing itself isn't much of a surprise given how closely their circles already overlap. What is surprising is the choice of song for their debut: a cover of Post Malone's "Wrapped Around Your Finger," a pick that sits well outside the folk and psych textures both musicians are known for.
Panamint's first release gives no indication yet of whether more original material or further covers are planned. For now the project is a one-off statement from two musicians already deeply embedded in each other's work within the indie scene.
