Antony Szmierek released a video for his single Flight Simulator on August 7, DIY reported, featuring Imogen and the Knife and the actor Craig Cash from The Royle Family.
Szmierek described the song as the twisting monologue of someone trying to land a falling plane on luck alone, mixing lost loves, video games and messages from birds; he said it is "about putting your faith in the unknown, and pure belief before logic and reason," calling it "an expansive, cinematic roller of a tune with ethereal backing vocals and poetry tumbling over one another into the abyss."
The accompanying visualiser shows Szmierek and Imogen and the Knife guiding Cash's character back from the brink toward a safe landing, matching the song's imagery of faith over logic.
Flight Simulator is the fourth single from Szmierek's upcoming second album, Decoding Birdsong, due August 21 via Mushroom Music and Virgin Music Group, following earlier previews Seminal, Chalk and The Heron. The Manchester-via-Bristol poet is following up his debut album, The Service Station At The End Of The Universe, with a second record arriving under two years later.
Decoding Birdsong runs 13 tracks, including "Bookie's Favourite" featuring Ellur, "Godzilla Hotel" featuring 1-800 GIRLS and the closing pair "Decoding Birdsong" and "Aussie Gold Hunters."
