Armin van Buuren and Laidback Luke advise the AI music app Moises

Armin van Buuren and Laidback Luke have joined Moises, the music practice and production app, as advisers to a newly launched Artist Partnerships program.

The app claims roughly 80 million users, and the two DJs will weigh in on product decisions rather than lend their names to a marketing push. Ryan Merchant, the company's head of global communications and artist partnerships, told EDM.com that both are already deep in the process. "Armin and Luke are deeply involved in product development," he said, adding that they have handed over a list of their own product concepts.

The appointments follow the hire of Charlie Puth as chief music officer, and the pattern is deliberate: put working musicians in front of a product that independent artists are inclined to distrust.

Both DJs framed their involvement around who keeps control. "What matters is whether the artist stays in control," van Buuren said, arguing that technology has always been part of how electronic music moves and that the test is whether a tool takes creativity out of the producer's hands.

Laidback Luke put it in terms of what a tool should teach. "Every generation of producers gets new tools, but the best tools do not do the work for you," he said, describing the kind of software he would want a young producer to grow up with.

Moises positions itself against prompt-to-song generators, the category Suno sits in, saying its models are trained exclusively on licensed material and its tools are built for practising, mixing and performing. The company says it holds 50 proprietary AI models, was named Apple's iPad App of the Year in 2024, became the first AI technology partner for Fender's Studio Pro, and supplies the stem separation behind a feature in Ableton Live.

More names are promised. Moises says it will announce further artists and producers across multiple genres in the months ahead, with the electronic world the obvious first place to look.
