Country artist Chasen Wayne announces concept album "The Diamond Saloon"

Chasen Wayne announced a new album, "The Diamond Saloon," a 17-track concept record due Aug. 28 and recorded at Sweetheart Studios in Elgin, Texas, Saving Country Music reported. The country artist and his backing band, the Honky Tonk Machine, have built a following mixing country, psychedelia, surf, punk and jazz with heavily narrative songwriting.

The new record follows two fictional brothers, Ricky and Rex, who run a struggling bar called the Diamond Saloon in the remote West Texas town of Van Horn, with the story narrated by Austin musician Denis O'Donnell. In the album's prologue, Wayne describes Rex as stuck running the place: "Rex is relegated to running the place due to his brother's frequent absences from shifts." Ricky, by contrast, chases a different, riskier path: "He is trying something different. Thrill seeking behavior with big rewards with high risk," Wayne writes, describing him as "cavalier and naive" but ultimately unprepared for the world he's chasing.

The Honky Tonk Machine lineup on the album includes Jamey Maness on pedal steel guitar, Jared Standish on fiddle and violin, Alex Riegelman on electric guitar, Conner Church on drums and Will Felty on bass and harmony vocals, with Jordan Hillman guesting on piano alongside O'Donnell's narration. Wayne wrote nearly all of the songs himself, aside from a couple credited to Maness.

Two singles, "Morning Light" and "Carlos," had already been released ahead of the full announcement, which arrived alongside a new song, "En Laredo." The 17-track list also includes narrative interludes titled "Part One" through "Part Four" that thread the brothers' story between songs like "Santa Muerte," "Easy Money" and closer "El Salon De Diamantes."

"The Diamond Saloon" follows Wayne's 2024 album "Strange Places" and 2025's "Corpus," both of which built his reputation for ambitious, story-driven records within the country scene. O'Donnell, who narrates the new album, is also known in Austin as co-owner of bars including Sagebrush and the former White Horse.
