Garage rock duo Black Mekon have announced their new album, 13 Songs About Monsters, and released the first single, "Radioactive Wolfman," The Line of Best Fit reported on August 13. The album follows the band's 2023 record NEAT, and is billed as their "most devious and rocking" work yet, built around thirteen tales of monsters, murder, witchcraft and paranormal happenings.
Over two decades, the duo have toured the United States, Europe and Japan alongside acts including Jack White, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Guitar Wolf and King Brothers, and released roughly thirteen albums and nine 7-inch singles of their own.
Beyond music, they have built out a wider Black Mekon universe with a video game, action figures, a working arcade machine, their own fuzz pedals, an animated movie and several comics, giving the band's fictional monster mythology a life outside its records.
13 Songs About Monsters runs thirteen tracks: "There's a Ghost," "Underwhelmed," "Bat Leather," "Ghost Rider (Lovesong)," "Your Gum, My Hair," "Tonight I Strike," "The Ballad of the Composite Cryptozoic Kid," "Radioactive Wolfman," "Zombies!," "Tey Fuu," "The Fiend," "Bite Me!" and "Kill Them!"
The album arrives on limited edition glow-in-the-dark vinyl as well as digitally, with the band playing a release day show at The Hare & Hounds in Birmingham on October 30, the day the album comes out via PNKSLM Recordings. The record sits within rock and in the release calendar alongside the rest of the band's catalog.
