Bloc Party debuts a video for new track "Pigwig" off upcoming album

Bloc Party has shared a video for "Pigwig," the fourth single from its upcoming album Anatomy of a Brief Romance, due September 11 on cOnTAGIOUS LTD via Virgin Music Group, Under the Radar reported. Frontman Kele Okereke says the album carries the most personal songs he has written. "Every lyric you're hearing on this record was something that actually happened to me," he said. "I had to tell the story, from start to finish."

According to Okereke, the record grew out of a major life shift: after more than a decade together, he separated from the father of his children, then unexpectedly fell in love again. "Having this romance, this new thing emerge, it kept me sane, in a very dark time," he said of that period.

"Pigwig" itself takes its title from a pet name Okereke and his new partner used for each other, drawn from Beatrix Potter's Pigling Bland character, an inside joke between the two. "'Pigwig' is about the moment of realizing that you have been hit by a very big love," he explained, describing the song as one of the sweetest on the album and tying it to a memory of a romantic seaside trip early in the relationship.

The single follows three earlier previews from the record: "Coming on Strong," "Love Bombs" and "Now We Can't Be Friends." Trevor Horn, known for his work with Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, produced the album.

Anatomy of a Brief Romance will be Bloc Party's first album since 2022's Alpha Games, and arrives with the band's current lineup of Okereke, Harry Deacon, Louise Bartle and Russell Lissack intact. The rock band has not yet announced tour dates behind the new record.
