BMG has acquired Andrew Stockdale's publishing, recorded music royalties and neighboring rights interests in the catalog of his Australian rock band Wolfmother, Music Business Worldwide reported on August 3. BMG has published Stockdale globally since 2016, and the deal brings his recorded music royalties and neighboring rights under the same roof. Stockdale co-founded Wolfmother in Sydney and is the band's vocalist, guitarist and songwriter.
Wolfmother's single "Woman" won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2007. The band's self-titled 2005 debut was certified five times platinum in Australia and gold in the United States, Canada and Germany, and its 2009 follow-up, Cosmic Egg, debuted at No. 16 on the Billboard 200. Wolfmother won three ARIA Awards in 2006, including Best Group and Best Rock Album, and Stockdale won the APRA Songwriter of the Year award in 2007.
Heath Johns, BMG's president for Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, said he signed Stockdale to his first publishing deal in 2005, two years before Wolfmother won its Grammy, and still keeps the original demo CD on his desk. Stockdale said BMG's syncs have helped cement Wolfmother's music in popular culture, pointing to the band's songs appearing in The Hangover, Ted Lasso, Guitar Hero and the Madden NFL series.
The acquisition is BMG's latest under its Boost catalog-investment program, which has put more than $1.5 billion into music rights since 2021 and included 30 catalog acquisitions in 2025. BMG's largest deal to date remains its $250 million purchase of Jason Aldean's recorded catalog, completed in September 2025, and the company is also in the process of merging with Concord, a deal expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.
