Boy Harsher have put out "Tough Luck (When You Don't Call)," ahead of their upcoming album, Get Mean.
The two members of the synthpop duo met in film school, a background that has shaped much of their output since. Their last album served as the soundtrack for The Runner, a 40-minute short film the pair made in 2022. They are now working on a feature-length follow-up, The Lonely Woman, which is set to star Chloe Sevigny, FKA twigs, Sturgill Simpson and Will Oldham.
Get Mean will arrive before that film is finished, continuing Boy Harsher's pattern of pairing new music with expanding ambitions on screen. The band's dual identity as both musicians and filmmakers has become a defining part of their creative process, with albums and film projects developing alongside each other rather than one following the other.
