Bristol's Noods Radio joins DAB+ to broadcast its music across the city

Noods Radio, the independent Bristol station that has showcased underground dance music since 2015, has joined DAB+ for the first time, putting it on car and kitchen radios across the city as of today.

The station started out of a living room in Stokes Croft before moving through pubs and other venues in the area, eventually settling into a permanent home at music venue Mickey Zoggs in 2021. It will continue streaming globally online alongside the new digital radio signal.

Station director Jack Machin called the shift "surreal." "We started Noods in a living room because we wanted somewhere for people to share the music they cared about," he said. "Since then, we've broadcast from a pub, a room above The Croft, Hamilton House and finally a venue of our own on Cheltenham Road."

The move follows a period of real uncertainty for the station. In 2024, Noods launched a crowdfunding campaign to save itself from closure amid the threat of eviction, and the surrounding community raised enough money to keep the venue open.

"Hearing Noods through radios in kitchens, cafes, workshops, shops and cars across Bristol will feel surreal," Machin said. "We've grown, but we're still rooted in Stokes Croft and driven by the same curiosity and independence that we started with."
