DJ Carl Cox contributes music to a new "Animal Farm" film

Carl Cox contributed three tracks, "The Rogues," "Drone Farm" and "My Bunker My Party," to the score of Animal Farm, director Andy Serkis's animated adaptation of George Orwell's novel, Mixmag reported. The film, also marketed as Animal Farm: A Cautionary Tail, features voice work from Seth Rogen, Gaten Matarazzo, Steve Buscemi, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Laverne Cox and Woody Harrelson, and opened in UK and Irish cinemas July 24 after a US release last year.

It's the second time Cox and Serkis have worked together; Cox previously contributed the track "Carnage" to Serkis's 2021 superhero film Venom: Let There Be Carnage. "We've got your incredible, dancefloor, three-deck wizard magic coming into the story at a brilliant point where everything starts to turn," Serkis told Cox in a clip the pair shared promoting the film.

Cox said the brief gave him freedom to shape the music around the story's turning points. "For me, I think it was quite easy to be able to adapt my music to the messages," he said. "Because I was left free to be able to create the music, to the ideal of the pieces that I was given."

Asked whether he had an appetite for scoring more films after Animal Farm, Cox said he would. "I would do, because I kind of like the challenge of it," he said. "I'm given a storyboard and it's like, so where do we go with this now?"

Animal Farm premiered in the US last year to a mixed critical reception before this week's UK and Irish release, giving Cox's contribution a wider audience as the film reaches British cinemas.
