Chris Brown and Usher grow their R&B tour after a $100 million box office haul

Chris Brown and Usher locked in eight more stadium dates for their co-headlining R&B Tour, pushing the total run to 59 shows across North America. Four of the cities are entirely new to the tour, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Columbia and Indianapolis among them, while several markets that already sold well are getting another night: Atlanta picks up a fifth date, Los Angeles a fourth, and East Rutherford and Miami both add a third.

The tour has been one of the biggest live draws of the summer since it kicked off with a sold-out show at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver back in June, built around a nearly three-hour production that trades off between the two headliners across nine cinematic acts rather than the usual back-to-back headline format. The show moves between each artist's solo catalog, songs like "U Remind Me," "With You" and "Yeah," before bringing them together for joint numbers including "New Flame," with tributes to Prince, Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye woven throughout the night.

The box office numbers behind the expansion are what stand out most: more than $101 million at the box office and upwards of 566,000 tickets sold across the first 13 concerts, every single one of them sold out.

That demand has already reset venue records along the way. Detroit's Ford Field became the first venue in roughly 25 years to host three straight nights of one tour, and Washington, D.C.'s Northwest Stadium drew a crowd topping 122,000 across its own three-night stand, a new attendance record that also ranks among the five highest-grossing shows in the building's 29 years.

Backing vocalists Mario, Eric Bellinger and Tank round out the production, each stepping into the spotlight for their own hits during the show, and surprise guests throughout the run have included 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Ashanti, Method Man and Future, keeping the R&B production fresh from city to city as it heads toward its newly expanded close on the tour guide.

The expansion lands in a year that has otherwise kept Brown in courtrooms as often as stadiums: he closed out a London nightclub bottle-assault case with a guilty plea and is separately fighting a $13 million verdict tied to an earlier assault claim, a reminder that the tour's record-setting run is only one thread of his year.
