CKY release new song Beware of the Heartless with a solo from Brent Hinds

CKY have released a new song, "Beware of the Heartless," built around a guitar solo recorded by the late Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds, Loudwire reported on August 14. The single arrives nearly a year after Hinds's death last August.

The solo had been sitting on frontman Chad Ginsburg's computer since it was recorded. "We were reminded that it was a year since our friend Brent passed away," Ginsburg said, explaining the decision to finally release it. "Brent took the time to play on it and we loved him... I want to let go of it and give it to everyone."

Hinds was ousted from Mastodon in March 2025 and died on August 20 last year after being struck by another vehicle while riding his motorcycle through an intersection in Atlanta. At the time, his band Fiend Without a Face had been due to tour Europe and the UK supporting CKY. This is the second CKY release to feature Hinds's playing, following a solo on "Days Of Self Destruction" from the band's 2017 album The Phoenix.

Mastodon themselves are still releasing new music since Hinds's death, with the band saying losing him meant sitting with a type of grief they never expected.

CKY have tour dates through November, including a stop at Aftershock Festival on October 1, and have a new album, New Reason to Dream, rumored to be in the works. The single is out now, part of this week's new rock and metal releases.
