Clean Bandit, Chloe Bailey and Omah Lay put out the single Company

Company puts three acts from three different corners of pop on the same record. Clean Bandit, Chloe Bailey and Omah Lay have released the single together, and it arrived with a video rather than trailing one a fortnight later.

Jack Patterson of Clean Bandit produced the chorus Bailey sings over: "I don't need no jewels or treasures, only need your ETA," she sings, before asking to be kept company. The writing keeps the hook simple and lets the arrangement do the travelling.

Clean Bandit worked both sides of the release, performing on the record and directing the video, which is built around choreography rather than narrative. That is a familiar division of labour for a group that has spent a decade as producers, players and image-makers at the same time.

The three-way billing is the interesting part. Clean Bandit are a British electronic trio with a long chart record, Omah Lay is one of the bigger Nigerian Afrobeats singers of his generation, and Bailey is a five-time Grammy nominee who has spent the past year proving how far her range travels.

She came into this straight off Resurrection, the collaborative mixtape she made with Timbaland, which had already turned heads before this single landed. Two very different collaborations inside a year is a deliberate pattern rather than an accident of scheduling.

No parent album has been named for Company, so it is a single for now. It is filed with the rest of the week's pop and rnb-soul releases on the release calendar.
