corto.alto and Jacob Alon combine on new song "NOBLEHILL"

corto.alto and Jacob Alon released "NOBLEHILL" on August 18, a collaboration previewing corto.alto's new album Some Small Fortune, due September 4. The Scottish jazz-rooted producer built the record around outside collaborators rather than working alone, and "NOBLEHILL" pairs his production with the vocals of Alon, a Mercury-nominated, BRIT-winning Scottish songwriter, moving between opaque electronics and something closer to club music.

corto.alto explained the decision to open the album up to guests as a deliberate shift in his own process. "I wanted to write songs with artists that I love and have a proper collaboration with them, rather than be a control freak," he said, naming Alon, Mick Jenkins and BINA, a shapeshifting collaborator he described listening to "forever," among the artists he reached out to. "I'm entering a different world with this music," he added.

Some Small Fortune's lead single already features Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins, and "NOBLEHILL" arrives with a video that cuts up childhood photos of corto.alto to reveal the process behind the album's artwork, tying the song's reflective tone directly into how the record's visual identity is being built.

corto.alto will play a run of in-store shows this September, including stops in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Bristol and London's Rough Trade on Denmark Street on September 19, ahead of the album's release, giving fans a chance to hear more of the collaboration-driven record before it arrives in full.

Some Small Fortune lands on the release calendar as one of the more collaborator-heavy jazz releases of the fall, with "NOBLEHILL" standing as the second guest pairing revealed so far, after Jenkins' turn on the lead single.
