Cro-Mags are marking 40 years since their 1986 debut album, Age of Quarrel, with a full re-recording titled The Age Of Quarrel: 40 Years Of Quarrel, Metal Injection reported on August 6. The New York hardcore band shared a revised version of the album track World Peace alongside the announcement, with an official music video.
Frontman Harley Flanagan said none of the musicians who played on the original record were ever paid, and none received an accounting of the album's sales. He tried for years to reunite the original lineup to reclaim the rights to Age of Quarrel and Best Wishes under the Copyright Reversion Act, but could not get everyone together before that window closed.
"Forty years later, everyone who wrote these songs will finally be paid through ASCAP and BMI, and the remaining proceeds will go to charity," Flanagan said of the project.
Alongside Flanagan and original guitarist Doug Holland, the anniversary release features former Cro-Mags and Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Rocky George, Sepultura drummer Greyson Nekrutman, and members of Rise Against and Turnstile. The band has tour dates through the fall, though Flanagan has said on social media that chronic pain may limit how much longer he can tour.
