Crying Laughing preview the album Talking with the single "Geese Six"

Crying Laughing have shared "Geese Six," the track that closes their album Talking, which arrives next week.

The band come from Baltimore and play a combination of jazz and post-rock, which in practice means the horns and the guitars are doing the same job rather than taking turns.

Talking is out through Hausu Mountain, the Chicago experimental label whose catalogue tends to sit outside any tidy genre listing, and which has become a reliable marker of what this end of American instrumental music is doing.

"Geese Six" is the third advance track from the record. "Ricemeat" came first, followed by the album's opening track "Toppled Column," so the previews now bracket the record at both ends.

Stereogum's Chris DeVille singled this one out of the three, pointing at the balance of rumbling bass, pounding rhythm, celestial keyboards and honking sax, which is a fair description of what the band do at full stretch.

The album's release date lands next week, and it sits with the rest of the jazz and rock releases logged on the release calendar.
