Curiosity Shop have released "About A House," the newest song from their debut EP, Bound For The Sky. The Edinburgh alt-folk band have been rolling the record out song by song, and this is the third to arrive.
"Crows" and "Wandering Arrow" came first. "About A House" turns inward from there, landing as a nostalgic reflection on how the places a person lives end up shaping who they become.
Songwriter Ruairidh Wallace says the lyrics were years in the collecting. He has lived in and spent time in a lot of different homes, and kept writings about each of them; the song is what happened when he distilled that pile down and workshopped it into a tune.
The music came long before the words. Wallace says the guitar part and the leading melody arrived early and then sat on the back burner while he gathered ideas, and he only returned to it once he had enough of them. "It became a bittersweet collage of places I'll never visit again," he says, describing songwriting as a record of where his head was and what the walls saw.
No release date has been published for Bound For The Sky, and no label has been named alongside the single. New indie records with dates attached sit on the release calendar.
