Current Joys, the solo project of Surf Curse drummer Nick Rattigan, has announced a new album, ROSEBUD, and released the lead single "HOLE," The Line of Best Fit reported on August 13. ROSEBUD will be self-released on Rattigan's own imprint, They Are Evil, after years on Secretly Canadian.
Rattigan first began writing the songs as slowcore material during a difficult period, while also working with rappers including Lil Yachty and Polo Perks. He then sent the songs to producer Danny Dwyer, who also worked on Matt Proxy's track "God" and who Rattigan calls "the most beautiful producer in the world," and the two reworked the material together, adding glitches, screams and distortion. "I wanted it to be a collage of all of my influences," Rattigan said.
The result pulls in nu metal, screamo, electronica, hip-hop, power-pop, emo and darkwave across a ten-track list: "HOLE," "WILDFIRE," "CHAOS," "SUFFERER," "blood on the stereo," "KNIGHT OF SWORDS," "STAY," featuring Dwyer under his own artist name never goodbye, "skinamarink on the tv," "HALLOWEEN" and "SWEPT AWAY."
The announcement lands as Current Joys kicks off a UK and Europe tour, including a sold-out show at KOKO in London along with dates in Bristol, Dublin, Glasgow and Manchester.
ROSEBUD is set for release on November 6, and sits within rock and electronic, and in the release calendar ahead of its arrival.
