Dave Blunts puts out the Ulysses EP

Dave Blunts released Ulysses on 28 August, a five-track EP running Free Love, Easy Target, Mirror, Hey Solar and The Plug Let Me Down.

He has spent the past few years famous for reasons that have little to do with songwriting. The attention has come from his size and from lyrics engineered to offend as many groups as possible in as short a time as possible, a routine that has kept him in circulation without ever quite turning into a career.

The most controversial stretch was his work with Kanye West, a collaboration that put him in front of a far larger audience than he had reached alone. He has since stopped working with West, which leaves the material to carry itself.

HotNewHipHop's review was not kind. It described the act as tired, characterised the sound as a Juice WRLD imitation, and concluded that all of his worst instincts return on Ulysses, to the point that hearing one Dave Blunts song is functionally hearing all of them. Readers on the site rated the EP 1.5 out of 5, the lowest score across everything it covered that Friday.

What that leaves is a working question about how long attention alone sustains a hip-hop release schedule. Ulysses is out now and logged on the release calendar.
