Dave Matthews Band came back from a month off the road and spent two nights in Colorado digging through the parts of the catalogue that had gone quiet. At Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre in Greenwood Village they revived a song shelved since 2022 at each of the two shows.
Friday was the band's first concert since July 29, and it read like a group deliberately reaching. "Busted Stuff", "Come On Come On" and "Long Black Veil" each made only their second appearance of the tour. The rarity that mattered arrived late in the main set, when "Time Bomb" turned up between "Snow Outside" and "Drive In Drive Out" for the first time since May 21, 2022, ending an absence of more than four years. The song comes from Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.
The rest of Friday moved through "Jimi Thing" into Cameo's "Word Up!" and a closing stretch of "Crash Into Me", "Drunken Soldier" and "Stay (Wasting Time)". Matthews opened the encore alone with "Baby Blue" before the full band came back for "Tripping Billies".
Saturday ended another long gap. "Eh Hee" appeared for the first time since September 14, 2022, closing on nearly four years away. The song has an unusual history: Dave Matthews and Friends debuted it during a 2006 concert cruise, and the studio version released in 2007 has Matthews playing every instrument on it himself.
That night opened with Bob Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower" and took in "Big Eyed Fish" into "Bartender", plus "Sweet Up and Down", "Say Goodbye", "I Did It" and "#41", with "The Stone" closing the main set. Matthews again started the encore solo, this time with the tour debut of "Here On Out", before the band returned for "What You Are".
The Friday show streamed exclusively on SiriusXM while an official recording of Saturday went to nugs subscribers, which means the two bust-outs are documented in different places. The band went straight from Colorado to a rescheduled Minnesota date, then to their annual three-night Labor Day run at The Gorge in George, Washington.
That Minnesota show turned into its own event: DMB opened the new Mystic Lake Amphitheater with Sierra Ferrell. Matthews is also due onstage at a T.J. Martell Foundation gala alongside Trey Anastasio and Chris Stapleton in September. Their remaining rock dates are on the tour guide.
