Dawn Richard has shared "chuuuuurch," a new single featuring Anjelika "Jelly" Joseph, pulled from her upcoming album Creole Culture.
Creole Culture continues Richard's ongoing exploration of her New Orleans roots, a thread she has pulled on across past albums, this time recorded with drummer and producer Greg Paul and his Katalyst collective.
Since her major-label pop days in Danity Kane and Diddy - Dirty Money, Richard has built one of the more searching, genre-crossing catalogs in contemporary R&B, threading electronic production and Gulf Coast identity through records that rarely repeat themselves, and Creole Culture continues that pattern by turning further inward toward home.
Early singles from the album, "enough" and the Durand Bernarr duet "baby, can we?," already pointed toward a funkier, more direct sound for Richard, and "chuuuuurch" carries that same throughline forward alongside Joseph's guest vocal.
The new song adds to a run of new R&B and soul releases building toward Creole Culture's release, tracked alongside other upcoming albums on the release calendar.
