Deathchant, the Los Angeles heavy psych band, have released a new song called "Enemy" and announced their next album, Kova, due out September 25 on RidingEasy Records, Metal Injection reported on August 7.
The band is a quartet: vocalist and guitarist Thomas J Lemieux, guitarist Doug Stuckey, bassist Quinn-George Camacho and drummer Nick "Joose" McDonnell. Lemieux said Deathchant has given him "a truly safe place to express every facet" of himself over nine years together, even while living what he called an often brutal life inside motorcycle culture.
Lemieux said Kova took shape as he became a new father, went through a divorce and lost his best friend, Davey Kova, during the writing process, and that the album became a tribute both to him and to the friends the band has lost in recent years.
Lemieux described Davey Kova as someone who "white-knuckled life" and treated every day like it was his last, calling him "the sweetest guy you could ever meet" despite the fast, hard-partying way he lived. "We're lucky to be able to tell stories of a legend who's not with us anymore," Lemieux said.
The album is available for pre-order now through the Metal Injection store, with a pre-save open ahead of the September 25 release, joining the rest of the week's new rock releases on the release calendar.
