Deathcore band REV3RENT announce the album She Let the World Run Rampant

REV3RENT have announced their debut record, She Let the World Run Rampant, and released its title track at the same time.

The band are a California six-piece, and young enough that Metal Injection's John Hill noted they would have been in kindergarten during the message-board arguments that shaped the genre they are reviving.

That genre is Myspace-era deathcore, and the throwback wave around it has become large enough to give listeners in their mid-thirties a small identity crisis. Hill's argument is that a lot of the newer bands are executing the style better than most of the acts that filled it out originally.

What separates this one, by that account, is the sound rather than the reference points. Where many groups older and younger sound like a product of machines, REV3RENT sit between raw and legible, so the breakdowns land in the chest rather than in a mix.

The details are the genre's own furniture used well: little computer glitch noises at the end of a chord for texture, and 808 bass drops placed under each breakdown at close to the platonic setting for the trick.

No release date has been attached to She Let the World Run Rampant yet, so the title track is the whole of the record so far. It will appear on the release calendar once dated, among this year's metal debuts.
