Deer park and Valeria Litvakov share two singles cut in New York and Prague

Deer park has put out two songs at once, Better Than Mine and The Neverhood, with the German experimental electronic artist Valeria Litvakov on both. They are out now through Deleted, a label the earlier reporting on this release left out entirely.

The pair met in New York earlier this year at Webster Hall, where both were opening for James K. Litvakov went back to the studio with him afterwards and Better Than Mine was written and recorded there, quickly, in what The Line of Best Fit describes as a one-take session. The song turns over success, what it means to feel fulfilled, and the stretches in between where everything feels mediocre.

The Neverhood came later in the year and a long way from New York. The two crossed paths again at Creepy Teepee Festival in Prague and recorded the track at an Airbnb out in the Czech countryside, which is an unusually specific piece of geography for a pair of electronic singles to carry.

Neither song has been attached to an album, and nothing has been announced to follow them. That leaves the two tracks standing on their own, which is a reasonable place for them to sit given how differently they were made.

Deer park heads out on a UK and European run off the back of them. The dates take in Pitchfork Music Festival Paris along with shows in Brussels, Dublin, London, Bristol, Copenhagen and Barcelona, and the singles land as that tour is being loaded in. Release dates for both are logged on the release calendar, and the songs sit at the more experimental end of indie writing rather than straight club music.
