Dirty Honey have named their third full-length record Catch My Butterfly and dated it for 15 January, putting out two songs from it the same day. Consequence reports that Lights Out and Butterfly are the first material from the album, which John Feldmann produced after work with Yungblud, blink-182 and Korn.
The record follows Can't Find the Brakes, released in 2023, and the gap has been long enough that the band talks about surviving it. "Any band has to really survive to make a third record," singer Marc LaBelle said in a statement, describing mistakes made in the studio and regrets worked through since. Bassist Justin Smolian framed the album as a range test, saying the group is no one-trick pony.
Dirty Honey are a Los Angeles trio at the core, LaBelle on vocals with John Notto on guitar and Smolian on bass, and their position has been the same since they started: a modern take on the Aerosmith and AC/DC school, made by a band with no major label behind it. That independence is the reason the group gets written about at all, and it is also why a third album is a genuine question rather than a scheduled event.
Catch My Butterfly runs to 14 tracks. After Lights Out and If It's Over comes Numb, then Wanderlust, Good For You and the title-adjacent Butterfly, with Good Times Gone, American Lies, Poison, Sweeter, No Way Out, New Blood and Lullaby before a closer called I Should've Known. Fourteen songs is a long record for a band working in three-minute riffs, and the tracklist reads like one that was cut from more.
John Feldmann's involvement is the sharpest turn here. He is a pop-punk and crossover producer by trade rather than a classic rock one, and hiring him suggests Dirty Honey are chasing something more compressed than the loose, live-in-the-room sound of their earlier work. Whether that reads as a widening or a sanding down is the thing the January release will settle.
