Duet Emmo will play live for the first time at the ICA in London on October 27, more than four decades after the project released its only record.

The trio is Graham Lewis and Bruce Gilbert of Wire alongside Daniel Miller, who founded Mute Records and recorded as The Normal. They made one album together, Or So It Seems, released in 1983, and have never taken it to a stage.

The gig is part of In The Round, a series of concerts at the venue performed on a central stage using a 360-degree spatial audio system. Jacob Silkin of the ICA, who curated the programme, said the centralised stage dissolves the barriers between artist and audience, and described the effect of the d and b Soundscape rig as feeling more like being inside a performance than watching one.

The rest of the series draws from a similar corner. Gilla Band, Alabaster dePlume, Tara Clerkin Trio, PVA and L'Rain are among the acts playing, and Shane Parish will perform his Autechre Guitar album. There is also an evening with WACK, a collaboration between Jennifer Walshe, Neil Luck and the French ensemble lovemusic, and a closing show from Discovery Zone billed as an ambient space odyssey.

For an audience, the appeal is partly archaeological. Or So It Seems sat between Wire's angular rock and the early electronic music Miller was releasing on Mute, and it has never had a live counterpart to be measured against. What the three of them do with the material now, on a system built to move sound around a room, is the whole reason to turn up.
