Ela Minus teams up with Nick León on a three-track release

Ela Minus and Nick León have released a joint EP, Qué les pasó a mis amigos?, running three tracks, The Quietus reviewed on August 12. The two met and grew close while wandering Mexico City together, and the review frames the EP as the product of neighbouring sensibilities: León's dread-laced Miami club sound meeting Minus's colder synth-pop circuitry, a pairing the review said felt custom-built after Minus's own 2025 song "QQQQ" imagined "if we are going to let go, I prefer that it ends here."

The title track pairs sparse synths and glittering arpeggios with existential questions from Minus, including whether to stop working, leave everything to chance and finally end the music, building toward a supernova-like close. "Lose My Cool" pulls inward instead, capturing the paralysis of an argument with someone you love through digitally splintered vocals set against warmer, organic percussion from León; the review singled out the way Minus pronounces the words "obstacle," "cruel" and "cool" as among the small details that linger longest. "Espiral" then breaks the tension with a surging reggaeton cut, its restraint finally stomping into motion.

The EP's remixes extend that range further, with Guedra Guedra bringing Berber percussion and mysticism to "Lose My Cool," and Brenda fracturing "espiral" into a more kaleidoscopic electronic maze.

The Quietus read the project as a meditation on a specific point in life, when striving starts to lose its sweetness and friendships and relationships strain under the roles people play to feel worthy, but not as a record that treats surrender as defeat. The outlet called it less a finished statement than the first glimpse of a shared language between the two artists, part of a busy year of electronic collaborations.
