Slick's day job is behind a kit. He has been the drummer in Dr. Dog, the Philadelphia band, for years, which is the credit most listeners will know him by even when they do not know the name.
The session work is where the range shows. Stereogum lists Taylor Swift, whose 2021 Maren Morris collaboration You All Over Me he played on, alongside Waxahatchee, MJ Lenderman and Wilco's Sky Blue Sky festival earlier this year. Bringing in Molly Martin and Jamie Lidell on the lead song says something about which direction this one leans. Lidell in particular has spent two decades moving between electronic production and soul singing, and a drummer's solo record with him on it is unlikely to be a set of drum showcases.
