Esme Emerson have released a new song, Jackie, their first new music of 2026, The Line of Best Fit reported on August 14. The British-Chinese sibling pop duo, Esme and Emerson Lee-Scott, say the song is about a queer love that could never be a long-term plan, and more broadly about queer people who disappear too early through fear or violence.
The pair explained the song in a joint statement: "Jackie is an unforgettable queer love that had to switch and go, because loving another woman could never be her long-term plan." They added that while the song is about one particular person, it is "also about all those who disappear," saying many queer people are "lost early and hatefully, with nobody to order a casket spray in their name."
Jackie follows the duo's pop EP Applesauce, released last year, and the standalone single Centipede. It is out now on the label Communion.
The release lands just as Esme Emerson join Hovvdy for a run of shows across the United Kingdom and Europe, giving the new song an audience beyond streaming.
