fish narc announced a new album, Uncle, due October 16, sharing its first single, "Much Less Me." The Pacific Northwest band, now based in Los Angeles after starting out in Olympia, is signed to K Records, and Clash's report pointed to echoes of Mudhoney and the label's own history in the new material, alongside something the review called "fey, melodic, and utterly their own."

Singer and main songwriter Ben Funkhouser called Uncle the strongest record the band has made. "I feel like Uncle is the best record I've ever made," he said. "The songs grew without changing, the textures are spot on, and Alex [Farrar] and I saw eye to eye about almost everything," he added, crediting his rapport with producer Alex Farrar for a record that "represents what I want for my band and songwriting and is the touchstone on which all my future work will be based."

fish narc's last album, frog song, came out in 2025, one of what Stereogum called several amphibian-themed releases that year, and Stereogum's report noted that Funkhouser first surfaced online as part of the GothBoiClique scene before shifting toward the guitar-driven rock the band now plays.

"Much Less Me" arrives with a video shot on Super 8 by frequent K Records collaborator Jolie M-A, continuing the band's low-fidelity visual style into the new album cycle, and Clash called the track an "ace jumping off point" for the record as a whole.

Uncle lands on the release calendar as one of the fall's more anticipated returns for a band that has spent close to a decade moving between Olympia's indie scene and its own rock instincts, with October 16 now set as the date that latest chapter arrives.
