Freyja Elsy previews her EP to stop the world turning with new song Another Life

Freyja Elsy has released "Another Life," the latest preview of her forthcoming EP to stop the world turning, due September 11 and released independently, The Line of Best Fit reported on August 10. The track deepens the Cardiff-based Freyja Elsy's blend of electronic textures and acoustic instrumentation, built around soft, cyclical delays and led by guitar, piano and double bass.

Elsy described the emotional charge of the song in a press statement as "a sudden burst of sunshine through the clouds, a light breeze in the middle of a scorching heatwave," a moment shadowed by an unexpected sense of loss.

The song marks Elsy's first lyric written in Welsh, a language she has been learning for a couple of years. The line "Mae'r hydref yn cyrraedd, a mae Lleu yn gadael, eto" translates to "Autumn is arriving, and Lleu is leaving again," an homage to the Welsh folklore figure some etymologists link to the Celtic sun god Lugh.

That tension, between the certainty of the path she chose and grief for the lives she didn't live, runs through the track. "There was a strange feeling of grief as I realised that there might be facets of life I will never experience" because of the choices she'd made, Elsy said, calling it "a weird dichotomy."

Another Life follows earlier EP tracks In My Veins and Control. It's the latest addition to the release calendar and our electronic coverage.

Elsy's earlier tracks have earned support from BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio 6 Music, and a spot on the BBC Horizons and PRS Foundation-backed Forte Project in 2025, The Line of Best Fit reported.
