SoulTracks gave Funk Division's new song "Fall'in" a first listen on August 4. The Birmingham, England group works in soul-jazz, led by drummer and producer Mark Duffus, who also records solo as Blak Prophez.
Duffus started the outfit in 2005 under the name The Soul Garden, a group whose remixes reached artists including Justin Timberlake, before renaming it Funk Division in 2015. Producer Derek DK King has propelled the band's sound with deep house beats ever since, with several female vocalists taking the lead role over the years, including current singer Xiomara Mukwendi. SoulTracks pointed to earlier tracks "Right On" and "Symptoms of Love," and the band's SoulTracks debut, a DK Video Mix of "Whenever," as past highlights.
"Fall'in" comes from the band's 2025 full-length "Soul Amplified," and this version is a new "Live" remix, which SoulTracks described as a more pumped-up take frosted with a blues-drenched vibe. Reviewer Peggy Oliver wrote that Mukwendi's "sassiness brews a steamy confidence behind the lead microphone," with the song's narrator questioning a partner who "broke the rules" in an uncertain relationship.
The song joins the rest of August's releases in the release calendar and our R&B and soul coverage.
