Gene Hoglan, drummer for the thrash metal band Dark Angel, has threatened legal action against Rob Shallcross, who ran the label Reversed Records and managed Hoglan, Dark Angel and Death To All for close to two decades. Shallcross published a Facebook post on August 14 naming Hoglan directly, saying Hoglan has many unpaid invoices to the label and that he and Reversed Records had walked away from further work until the debt was settled.
Hoglan answered the next day, denying the debt and saying, 'You are now familiar with my legal team. See you in court.' He also accused Shallcross of locking Dark Angel and Death To All out of their own social media accounts, deleting their content, and replacing it with posts about his own projects, and he demanded a full accounting of the label's online store revenue.
Shallcross traces the breakdown to backlash over AI-generated artwork on Dark Angel's 2025 comeback album, Extinction Level Event, which he says he advised the band against using. Hoglan had already addressed the same controversy in a November 2025 podcast appearance, saying the cover took three years to develop and combined his own concepts with photography from artist Cain Gillis, and that he was comfortable using some AI tools.
Extinction Level Event, which Shallcross produced and engineered, arrived digitally in September 2025 and was initially sold directly through Reversed Records rather than streaming platforms, ahead of Dark Angel's first North American tour in more than three decades alongside Sacred Reich, Hirax, Vio-Lence, Midnight, Void and Interceptor. Reversed Records' website still promotes Dark Angel and Death To All pages alongside Shallcross's own project, Spiritual Aggression.
