George Michael is at the centre of a new posthumous concert film, and the first trailer for George Michael: The Faith Tour arrived this week. The movie was assembled from previously unreleased footage of two nights the singer played at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, now the Accor Arena, during the European leg of his 1988 Faith Tour.
The clip opens with "Careless Whisper", a song from his Wham! days that helped carry him into solo work, then moves through "Father Figure", "I Want Your Sex" and the Faith title track. An archival interview runs underneath. "I suppose what faith meant to me was that life was still gonna deliver," Michael says in it.
The footage came from a 14-camera shoot on 35mm film across the two Paris nights, rediscovered and restored for release. Andy Morahan and David Austin directed. Rolling Stone reported a December 11 theatrical date.
Michael was at a commercial peak when those shows were played. Faith, his solo debut, had arrived the year before and turned him from one half of a pop duo into a stadium headliner in his own right.
Each screening will be preceded by Finding Faith, a short film by Mary McCartney anchored on a previously unreleased Michael interview. It carries unseen photographs by Herb Ritts and behind-the-scenes footage from the "Faith" music video.
The release joins a run of archival music films reaching cinemas this year, among them the Queen Budapest concert film set for October 7 and the Michael Jackson biopic that passed $1 billion at the box office.
