Girl Tones have announced their debut record, Precious, due 6 November via Parallel Vision/Big Loud Rock, The Line of Best Fit reported on August 14. The album was produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant, whose Parallel Vision label the Bowling Green, Kentucky duo have signed to in partnership with Big Loud Rock.
Girl Tones are sisters Kenzie, on vocals and guitar, and Laila, on drums. They released a new single, Pretty Face, alongside the album news, with a video directed by Emily Buchwald and filmed in a wig store. Laila said the song is about people who hide who they are just to be accepted, and Kenzie called it a track that makes a declaration.
Laila said the song grew out of a simple question: "So many people will hide who they are just to be accepted. Why try to fit in? What does it really add up to?" Kenzie called it a track that "puts a stamp on things," adding: "It makes a declaration, listen, we're not here to play."
Pretty Face follows earlier songs Blame, Cherry Picker, I Know You Know and Again. This year Girl Tones have toured with Dexter and The Moonrocks, Peter McPoland and The Rare Occasions, and played festivals including SXSW, Treefort, The Great Escape, Bottlerock, Outside Days and Bonnaroo.
The duo will follow the album with their first headline tour in November, with dates including Mercury Lounge in New York and DC9 in Washington, DC.
