Gnod reveals second album in its "Chronicles Of Gnowt" trilogy

Gnod have announced Chronicles Of Gnowt (Vol. 2), the second album in a planned trilogy marking the band's 20th year together, and shared its opening two tracks, "The Witness" and "Ice Man." The Salford, England group's five-track record emerged from the same six-day recording session at Hellfire Studios near Dublin that produced Chronicles Of Gnowt (Vol. 1), released in April.

Where the first volume ranged more widely, the band said this second one pushes further into the heavy, repetitious sound Gnod has built its reputation on since forming two decades ago.

Gnod's Chris Haslam told The Quietus the band leans on spontaneity rather than planning, describing frontman Paddy Shine's stream-of-consciousness lyrics as an example of what happens when the band steps back from over-analyzing its own process. "We find quite regularly that spontaneity and the no thought approach works better than over analysis and detailed planning," Haslam said, adding that removing the band's own will from the process tends to produce something more real.

Chronicles Of Gnowt (Vol. 2) is out October 9 via Rocket Recordings, continuing a release schedule the band built specifically around its 20th anniversary rather than a typical album cycle. The trilogy format gives Gnod room to explore different sides of their sound across three connected records rather than compressing everything into one release.

The album joins the rest of the fall's new rock announcements on the release calendar, with a third volume still to come to complete the trilogy.
