A new fund for grassroots venues, promoters, artists and music workers across the UK, the Liveline Fund, opened for applications on July 21, launched by Music Venue Trust, Save Our Scene and the Association of Independent Promoters, Mixmag reported. The fund aims to address what organisers call one of the biggest structural problems in grassroots music: the financial risk of putting on live shows.
It runs across four streams. The Guarantorship Scheme underwrites up to 80% of losses on eligible shows, while the Tour Extension & Regional Access Fund helps artists and promoters reach areas increasingly skipped over because of travel and accommodation costs.
A Local Scene Development Fund covers promoter training and venue hire to help build sustainable local music ecosystems, and a Genre Specific Safety and Access Fund targets scenes that carry extra costs or face added barriers to running events.
"The collapse of touring across the UK requires a robust and coordinated response from venues, bookers, promoters, agents, managers and artists," said Mark Davyd, CEO of Music Venue Trust.
"Liveline means everyone involved in creating, producing, developing and delivering a show can move forward with confidence, get shows happening," Davyd added, saying the fund is meant to let people focus on "the need to reignite towns and cities across the country with the thrill of extraordinary live music."
