Gwenllian Anthony has announced her first solo album. UMA arrives under the name GWEN, and the Welsh musician, formerly of Adwaith, has shared "POP!" alongside the announcement.
It is the second preview of the record, following her debut solo single "Achub Yr Iaith (Save the Language)."
"POP! is a release of all the feelings that can bubble away working in the music industry," Anthony says of the new song. She describes it as a middle finger raised at gatekeepers and closed-minded industry figures and at the grind expected of artists, while also taking stock of her own ambitions and what she is prepared to give up for them.
The album was written while she toured across Europe in the summer of 2025 and finished in West Wales with Tim Lewis, whose credits include Coil and Spiritualized, and her long-time collaborator Steff Pringle.
The bigger shift is that she made it alone. Anthony spent years writing collectively, and UMA is the first body of work she has written by herself. "The experience of writing and recording on my own really allowed me to be introspective," she says, adding that it taught her she is capable and that she has something to say.
