half-alive have announced a short North American tour, their first run of dates since releasing the EP Billions on Friday, Aug. 28. The band, now the duo of Josh Taylor and J. Tyler Johnson, described the venues as some of the smallest rooms they have played in a long time.
The run opens on Oct. 30 at the Masquerade in Atlanta and closes 10 days after its Toronto stop, on Nov. 17 at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. Seven dates in total covers Atlanta, Nashville, Boston, Toronto, Columbus, Denver and Los Angeles.
Toronto's Mod Club on Nov. 7 is the only Canadian date on the schedule, which puts a single show between the Boston and Columbus legs and makes it the one stop north of the border for the whole tour.
The room sizes are the story. Exit/In in Nashville, the Sinclair in Boston, King of Clubs in Columbus and the Bluebird Theatre in Denver are club-scale venues, and playing them deliberately after a run of larger shows is a choice a band makes when it wants the EP heard rather than the tour grossed.
Presale opened the day after the announcement at 10 a.m. local time. For an indie pop act that spent years as a trio and now works as a duo, a seven-date club tour is a reset rather than a victory lap, and the full schedule is on the tour guide.
