Harry Styles says the stage puts a singer in a godlike position

Harry Styles has been talking about what a stage does to a person. In an interview with W magazine, reported on 26 August 2026, the 32-year-old singer described the arrangement between a performer and a crowd and landed on a word for it: if you are up there, he said, it is "a very godlike position."

He was careful to frame it as something shared rather than led. The crew and the band, in his account, create an environment for people to have a joyous time, and everyone in the room is there for the same reason. He stressed that he is not asking anyone to follow him, only offering something he believes in alongside them.

Then comes the part that undoes it. "When I come offstage, the first thing I do is shower," Styles said, because it is better for him to feel like he washed it off. He has been doing it for years now, on the theory that the show is a thing that can be removed rather than a thing he carries home.

What he described as following the shower is a stripped-down state, naked and, in his phrase, "almost infant-like." As for scrolling through comments once all that is done, he had two words for it: "It's death!"
