Index, the new duo formed by former Control Top members Alan Creedon and Alex Lichtenauer, has shared a new song called "Earth," Stereogum reported. The pair were previously two-thirds of the Philadelphia DIY punk trio Control Top, and Stereogum described Index as an electronic-influenced punk duo with a heavier, more exciting sound than that earlier band.
The song previews Vis Inertiae, the duo's debut album, due out next month.
The record was recorded with producer Arthur Rizk, known for his work with Sumerlands, at Show Me The Body's Corpus studio, pairing the duo with a producer whose own background sits at the intersection of punk and heavier rock music.
"Earth" is not the first taste of the album: Index has already released two earlier songs from Vis Inertiae, "Cellophane" and "Fractured," ahead of today's release.
Between the album's producer, its recording location and the two prior singles already out, Index has been steadily building toward the album's arrival rather than announcing it all at once. Stereogum's fuller writeup of the new track sits behind a subscriber login, but the outlet's own framing of the band as electronic-influenced punk with a heavier edge matches the direction "Earth" takes.
