Inspiral Carpets tour bus in M74 crash that put two people in hospital

Inspiral Carpets' tour bus was involved in a motorway crash in Scotland that left two people in hospital, the band confirmed through a spokesperson.

The collision happened on the southbound carriageway of the M74 in the early hours of Monday August 24. The band had played two shows in Scotland as part of their ongoing UK tour and were travelling back towards England when the bus hit another vehicle.

Two people in the other vehicle received minor injuries and were taken to hospital. The band, their crew and the bus driver were all uninjured. The statement issued on their behalf said that nobody from either vehicle was seriously injured, and that with the matter now in the hands of police the band could give no further comment.

The current lineup is Clint Boon, Stephen Holt, Martyn Walsh and Oscar Boon. The tour is continuing, with dates running to September 25, when the run finishes at Neuadd Ogwen in Bethesda.

This is the busiest stretch the band have had in years. They returned in May with "Drag The Bag", their first new single in 12 years, having reunited for a spring tour in 2023 and kept performing since.

The group had gone on an indefinite hiatus after the death of their drummer Craig Gill in 2016. Gill had joined at 14 in 1986, played through their 1990s peak and returned for the self-titled album they made in 2014. The indie and rock band's remaining dates are listed on the tour guide.
